Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale Announcement!

27 Apr

There has been a lot of talk lately, but today an official announcement was made that Playstation will be releasing a Super Smash Bros -esque game called ” Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale” (or PASBR as I’m sure it will soon be referred to – what a name!) Originally rumoured last year under the name, “Title Fight”, it will be an amalgamation of some of the biggest names in the PS roster, including both exclusive and third party characters.

(you can view the trailer and the official announcement HERE and read an extensive prerelease review of the first six characters from HERE!)

Despite the long winded name and the criticisms that it’s a little too similar to the Nintendo franchise, it looks like it would be a riot to play, the kind you pull out at a party and hand around the room for hours on end (lately our house has been Street Fighter city for the very same reason). Who would win in a head to head battle between Kratos and Fat Princess? Or Nathan Drake and Jak and Daxter? It’s the type of game that indulges ridiculous fantasies and a little bit of blood lust when you take your anger out on Sweet Tooth for all the trouble he’s caused you in the past (Yes, I was terrible at Twisted Metal).

An image that haunts my nightmares

I’m excited to hear about the rest of the characters. So far only six have been officially revealed: Kratos (God of War), Colonel Radec (Killzone), Sly Cooper (self titled), Sweet Tooth (Twisted Metal), Fat Princess (s.t.) and PaRappa the Rapper (s.t.). I thought about it, and made my own list of who I would like to see turn up!

Not only is Spyro a dragon (awesome!), he also is pretty badass. Being sent out as a child to save your dragon people takes a lot of guts, so he’s got the experience. Not to mention he can (kinda) fly, and he shoots fire AND ELECTRICITY out of his mouth. Plus he’s purple, and I like that.

Nathan Drake

Drake has some decent parkour skills, which could help out getting around the courses and out of the way of attacks. He not only can shoot guns but also has some decent hand to hand combat. More importantly, his dry humour and wit would make the game more interesting and witty.

This is an obvious choice. The LBP games have been a cornerstone in the PS3 exclusives line-up, and not having a Sackboy would be a huge disappointment. Set him on the angriest of his angriest faces, give him a knight’s armour costume, and let him loose on the battlefield!

White Knight Chronicles protection for the adorbs Sackboy!

One of the Assassins Creed heroes needs to be in this, whether it’s Ezio or Altair. They are both subtly bad-ass, with their faces masked in their hoods, their hidden blades, combat skills, and their equally impressive parkour skills to those of Drake. Being an assassin is tough, because you get the toughest jobs without any of the glory (you gotta keep your anonymity!)

(side note – if you haven’t seen this remake/parody of the AC: Revelations trailer, you MUST WATCH NOW!!)

Deadmund is the little skeleton kid from Medieval Moves: Deadmund’s Quest, one of the only Playstation Move games I’ve played where the Move is required. And this kid is awesome! He had a bow and arrow, a sword, throwing stars – and when he gets hurt, he drinks milk to replenish his health! Adoraballs! He could add some interesting weaponry the the Battle Royale, and could dodge a lot of attacks through his non fleshy body.

To be honest, I have no idea what a Moogle could bring to an All-Stars battle, but they’re so friggin’ cute they have to be here. Maybe smash them with their save book, or adorable them to death? They’re like the Jigglypuff version of the PS franchise; if there’s room for Jiggly in SSB, there’s room for a Moogle in PASBR.

Kupo Kupo!

That’s my list! It’ll be interesting to see what gets announced over the coming weeks before it’s released ‘Holiday 2012’. I’m certain there will be news on this at E3!

Until next time!
